Arras is the result of a dream to bring out the unique strengths of the little corner of our country that we call North East India, while staying true to our passion for preserving the environment.

At the heart of it all, we want Arras to be a platform that inspires optimism to everyone.

If the start of Arras is any proof at all, then our passions can become our careers, our individual action can help try to fight climate change and our work can empower local communities.

A place of possibilities, for you and for all of us.

"As the entrepreneurial cliché goes, in 2018 I left my unfulfilling corporate job to start something of my own. However, unlike most others who usually have a plan and strategy in place before deciding to break-up with a regular monthly salary, I left my job in Delhi- a city I had called home for over 13 years- and moved back to my home town, Guwahati, with no concrete ideas in mind.

As I appreciated the opportunity to reacquaint myself with my place of birth, I met many artisans and young entrepreneurs working in the textile and handloom industry. Since a natural love of mine is textiles, I drove deeper into the sector and came across many beautiful ideas and products. Yet, due to many elementary issues, the handicraft products of NER remain largely unknown outside its borders.

During the 13.5 years that I spent in Delhi and in my travels across the country, I discovered that the North East Region of India and its people are still an enigma for many. It is important to convey that there is more to the region than the stereotypes that have come to define it. Thus, Arras was born because I really wanted to showcase the culture of North East India through its crafts. And maybe try to eliminate some negative stereotypes along the way. Currently we are working with artisans from Assam, with the intent to gradually expand our footprint to the other North Eastern states.

While building Arras, I wanted to be mindful of our individual and collective responsibility towards the planet and our local communities. A green economy and an inclusive society that leaves no one behind is the only way forward.  That is why our pieces are created to be as eco-friendly as possible with the usage of natural fibres and dyes. Each article is designed to have a timeless quality that will last you for years with proper care."
